GNU/Linux

One of the goods of Linux is that people share things. This is where I'll put my Linux related stuff.

Note that this will be *my* Linux stuff, as in "the Linux systems ToM uses" and not "the Linux related stuff for generic public eyes". This one is located on the main azatom.info domain. Or will be.

Gentoo Linux

Gentoo Linux is the distribution I use on my main desktop and on a server (the one that hosts this page).

Someday I'll write some advocacy to explain why I picked Gentoo up. Until that, you might be interested in surfing around the Gentoo Linux website.

cruchot

cruchot is my main desktop. It is a very old computer:

  • CPU: 1.101 mHz
  • RAM: 256 Mb
  • Graphics: Intel i810 chipset

I got some computers from the French Minister of the Interior (don't ask me how), so I gave each of them the name of a famous policeman character. Ludovic Cruchot is a character from "Le gendarme de Saint Tropez", played by Louis de Funès. This is because cruchot is the first computer I installed Gentoo on ; I was anxious as hell about the installation but it just went smooth and perfect. Just as De Funès easily gets on his nerves even if there is no reason to.

You can find some of the configuration files used on this box. Picked up from the files list :

Someday I'll turn cruchot to a test server, and I will make of Cosinux my main desktop.

Cosinux

At the beginning it was running Windows, I called it Cosinus because as the most powerful computer I own I was looking at it as a supercalculator. Then I installed Linux, and the name turned to Cosinux.

Basically it is a 2GHz computer. It is completely silent and is quite small. I plan to reinstall it completely.

Jupiter

Jupiter is my Windows computer (we always need a Windows sometimes). It has (had, should I say) many peripherals, which explains his name.

It is listed here because it will be a computer I'll test some distributions on. Given the heteroclit set of peripherals, this will probably be an interesting Quest Against the Evil Drivers.

Curently running, as a test, Windows LSD, a special flavour of Windows XP with optimisations that are supposed to save some ressources.

breek

Compaq Evo n1015vThis is my laptop, a Compaq Evo v1015v, gently lended to me by Ezechiel. Gentoo runs fine on it. With ACPI, cpufreqd and the such, the battery lasts about 4h30.

  • CPU: AMD Athlon XP 1500+
  • 256Mb RAM
  • Graphics: ATI Radeon Mobility U
Since I have this laptop, I don't use cruchot anymore.
